How it works! Each problem of the month consists of 5 levels (A through E) and students work through the levels progressively. While the levels do increase in difficulty, there is no specific level a student should be able to accomplish based on a specific grade level or math ability. Students should work through the levels as far as they can.
Students will work collaboratively in class 2-3 times a month, but should also spend some time with the problem at home. It is okay to get help, but ultimately the student needs to feel confidence in the completion of each level - would they be able to explain it using mathematical concepts and reasoning to another student or teacher?
At the end of the month, students determine the furthest level they could successfully accomplish and complete a write up on this level only. Think of this like a book report, but on a math problem instead of a story or novel.
