I am full of joy to be a teacher in the University Preparation Charter School community. I became the first 8th grade math and science teacher with UPCS back in 2007, teaching here until 2016, then spent a few years gaining new insight and experiences at schools in both Thousand Oaks and Santa Paula. Now in my 17th year, I am grateful to be back at UPCS working with all of the wonderful educators, students, and families that make up this incredible community.
Ventura county has been my home for most of my life. I graduated from Buena High School in Ventura in 2001, attended Pepperdine University for 3 years, then transferred out-of-state and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and my single-subject mathematics teaching credential from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX in May of 2006. In 2012, I went back to school and received my Masters of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from CSU Northridge.
Throughout my years being a teacher, I have had many opportunities and experiences to grow as an educator. I've developed and run a student leadership team, coached volleyball and cheer, sat on School Site Councils, been teacher representative in PTSA, served as TUPE Site Coordinator, planned and implemented a variety of school activities and events, led book clubs, participated in professional development, presented at the VCOE Teaching and Learning Conference and served as teacher leader and workshop presenter over a few summers at VC STEMposium. Through it all, my favorite place to be is in my classroom and with my students.
There is life outside of work. I live in downtown Ventura and take advantage of the beach and constant activity this area has to offer. I have a big family and handful of close friends, so there is always something going on. 6 siblings (all younger than me), two nieces (whom are the highlight of it all), mom, dad, grandma, cousins... we keep each other busy. I think that health - mentally, physically, and emotionally - is very important. I've rediscovered my love for dance and take adult classes in jazz, tap, and ballet, attend yoga classes, and do CrossFit. I also love spending an afternoon curled up with a book, journaling or crafting, listening to live music, or out to good food with friends.
Lastly, and with great excitement, I was MARRIED this past May to my incredible husband, Russell. We are full of joy and happiness and loving newlywed life together.
I am very honored to be your teacher and look forward to a great year!
